What is Soft Washing?

You may have heard the term but wonder what the heck is it? Soft Washing equipment is distinctly different than power and pressure washing equipment, and serves as a milder alternative to pressure washing. SoftWashing is a cleaning method using low pressure and a dedicated pump to apply a water-based, biodegradable disinfecting cleaning solution to kill organic matter such as mold, mildew, bacteria, algae, fungus, moss and more on exterior home and building surfaces. It is so named to differentiate the method from power washing. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends this low-pressure cleaning process as the preferred method for cleaning asphalt roofs in order to prevent damage to the shingles. When things get dirty most people think about pressure or power washing to blast it away. However pressure washing should rarely be used at all and can cause major damages to many surfaces, even etching of concrete if not used correctly. Painted decks, pool screens, exterior finishes, wood, exterior outlets, lights & fans, pool pumps, AC units, grouted areas on roof & floor tiles, sand between pavers, and the list goes on of the many major concerns when using a power washer. The red tip that comes with many pressure washers purchased at hardware stores has also been banned in many areas because of the intensified pressure it creates, and associated dangers. The pressure used when SoftWashing is about equal to what comes out of a water hose, or just slightly more to break the tension of the surface being cleaned away. In addition SoftWashing is killing the organic matter allowing it to stay cleaner, longer.
